Brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae), has been widely used for centuries to make bread, beer and other beverages and is well-known for it’s high concentration of B Vitamins.
B Vitamins are a group of 8 essential nutrients, also called Vitamin B complex, that play an important role acting as coenzymes in key enzymatic reactions and metabolic functions including the synthesis of red blood cells.
With the exception of Biotin which is the only B vitamin produced by the body, they are not synthesized and stocked in the body and need to be supplemented by a balanced diet or dietary supplements.

Our vitamin B complex is obtained through a fermentation process and comes from a pure culture of the brewer’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeasts are fed with specific amounts of vitamins, and grow naturally incorporating the Vitamin B complex. Then, brewer’s yeast is harvested, carefully purified with water and gently pasteurized to preserve all of the 8 essential B vitamins.
The Behind-the-Scenes Science: A complex of B vitamins for healthy hair*
We selected Brewer’s yeast as a source of essential B Vitamins renowned for playing an important role in promoting healthy hair. Nowadays with a balanced diet, B Vitamins deficiencies are rare, however, Vitamin B2, B8, B9 and B12 deficiencies have been associated with hair loss*.
Here’s a breakdown of what each of these eight vitamins do:
- Vitamin B2 metabolizes fats, carbohydrates, proteins or glucose to produce energy, including the energy used by hair follicles to manage the hair cycle and hair growth.
- Vitamin B2 also turns tryptophan (an essential amino-acid acquired from food) into Vitamin B3 which in turn activates Vitamin B6. Vitamin B3 is also known to detoxify skin and to keep hair in good condition.
- Vitamin B5 is known for its role in cell division in the hair follicle, promoting hair growth and moisture. Moreover, it may help prevent premature graying.
- Vitamin B6 helps the incorporation of cystine (a sulfur-containing amino acid) by the hair follicles to build the hair shaft and to create strong disulfide bonds.
- Vitamin B8 takes part in fat and protein metabolism and its deficiency may lead to hair loss.
- Vitamin B9 and B12 are coenzymes that take part in red blood cell production, bringing oxygen, among others, to tissues that build hair. It has been shown that Vitamin B9 stimulates hair follicles, preventing hair aging.
