Prose x Black Girls CODE: Supporting Girls in STEM

This year to celebrate Black History Month, Prose is partnering with Black Girls CODE to donate $10,000 to their cause. Just like within the beauty industry, throughout STEM, representation matters. Black Girls CODE is working hard to ensure that women of color are represented in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics industries.

    Why Black Girls CODE

By introducing girls to programming and technology when they’re young, Black Girls CODE sets them up to become the STEM leaders of tomorrow. Through their community outreach programs and after-school workshops they aim to train 1 million girls to code by 2040!

3 Ways Black Girls CODE Helps

    1. Community outreach programs, such as workshops and afterschool programs, give girls who come from underprivileged backgrounds the opportunity to learn basic programming skills and languages.
    2. Teaching these girls programming and game design encourages their love of technology from a young age, instilling in them lifelong tech skills and loads of self-confidence.
    3. As of 2013, Black Girls CODE has seven established institutions, including one in Johannesburg, South Africa.
