What Do Canary Club, Leif and Sunday in Brooklyn All Have In Common?

December 6, 2019

1 Min read

The first bought of snow has officially hit NYC and whether you’re rejoicing or reeling, it’s time to find some cozy winter hideaways that expand beyond your living room. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn that are sure to warm you from the inside out this season. Mix and match between places to create your own perfect winter escape route.

1. Albertine

The Albertine likes to say that the best bookstore in France is in New York City (the best bookstore being themselves, of course). They back up their clever claim, however, by being the only bookstore in New York devoted solely to books in French and English. The Albertine has more than 14,000 contemporary and classic titles from thirty French-speaking countries. The French-American cultural exchange is only enhanced by celestial ceilings and a dreamy, warmly lit atmosphere that just beckons for you to stay a while.

2. Freeman’s

Who would have thought that one of the coziest spots in NYC would be at the end of an alley? Freeman’s warm, woody, cabin-esque interior laughs at that absurd question as its dainty fairy lights welcome you in. This dimly lit retreat that’s tucked away in a city corner has food just as comforting as its ambiance, including five cheese macaroni and pumpkin bread pudding. Freeman’s couldn’t be more of a winter staple if it tried.

3. Canary Club

Dinner and a show? Yes, please. Canary Club is a new joint that boasts pistachio interiors and live jazz music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And, if winter hasn’t stolen all of your energy, the jazzy evenings turn into a late night disco and electric vibe after 11:30pm. You’re already indoors, so may as well stay, plus, who knows what will happen after a cocktail or two.

4. Metrograph NYC

What could be more cozy than nostalgia? Instantly time travel to a 1920s New York City cinema at Metrograph NYC. Old film buffs will be in particular heaven as Metrograph plays an array of archival print screenings as well as hosting exclusive premieres. And, in true New York fashion, they have a dining menu that extends from breakfast to late night bites.

5. Sunday in Brooklyn

Everyday should be Sunday in Brooklyn, right? Well, this quaint Williamsburg bistro thinks so and the hoards of people who show up every week to devour its insanely delicious menu (including their famous Hazelnut Maple Praline Pancakes!) agree. Their artisan cocktails aren’t to be overlooked either. Plus, now that the holidays are here, Sunday in Brooklyn goes all out and hosts their annual Snowday Pop Up where the restaurant is transformed into a winter wonderland and festive food and drink items are available.

6. Leif

So all of these places are clearly cozy, but what if you want to bring all those warm vibes back into your own home? When you walk through Leif you’re guaranteed to want almost everything you lay your eyes on. From plants to candles to hand sculpted chachkies, Leif has you covered. The only dangerous thing about this place: You’ll have a sudden (and overwhelming) desire to redecorate your entire apartment after just one walk through.

7. St. Mazie

If you’re in need of an all-purpose date spot, St. Mazie couldn’t be more idyllic. It has live music, an outdoor area and is complete with the warmly lit bar of your dreams. People have even gotten married here, so you know it’s something special. Team a hand crafted cocktail with oysters and live music and a first date is (almost) guaranteed to turn into a second.

8. Maman

Maman has a “grandma’s house” quality to it that is complete with a batch of the best chocolate chip cookies you’ll ever eat. Warm up with some tomato soup and grilled cheese served on their picturesque blue china and you’re all set for a perfect afternoon in this home away from home.

If you can’t bear to leave the house this winter, another way to keep cozy is to shower with our new, limited edition fragrance: Candela. Get to know the notes of Candela here and order your Prose here.
