Celebrate Giving Tuesday with Prose and Wigs for Kids

For the third Giving Tuesday in a row, we’re proud to support Wigs for Kids, a non-profit that provides custom-made hair replacements for children experiencing medical hair loss. Our donation will provide five children with fully custom wigs made by hand, giving them back their self-confidence and joy for years to come.

    Why Wigs for Kids?

For over 30 years, Wigs for Kids has been providing custom made hair-replacement systems and support for children who have lost their hair because of health crises, all at no cost to them or their families. Certified cosmetic therapist and stylist Jeffrey Paul, founder of this not-for-profit organization, relies on donations to help children through health crises while empowering them with confidence and self-esteem.

Paul founded Wigs for Kids after promising his 15-year-old niece, who had been diagnosed with Leukemia, that she would have her hair in time for her long-awaited gymnastics tryouts. Paul worked with doctors and prosthetics specialists to devise a hairpiece that would withstand typical kid activities, such as swimming, gymnastics, and sleepovers. They came up with a wig that adheres to the scalp and stays put, even under the most aggressive conditions. Even after getting wet, it would still look like the child’s own hair, because every strand is hand-tied.

The cost to create just one child’s Hair Replacement System is $1,800. 20 – 30 ponytail donations are required to make just one wig, with each being made custom made to perfectly fit the child’s head. This provides comfort but also helps them feel as normal as their friends and schoolmates. With their wig they can take part in all activities without having to worry.
