What was happening in your life when you got this haircut?
I had recently convinced my parents to stop curling my hair all the time, so because we didn’t do anything to it and let it just air dry straight, this was one of the first times that I ever felt free in my hair expressions.
Who/what was your haircut inspired by?
I was just inspired by not wanting to put in effort to change hair that I already liked the look of.
How did you feel when you had this haircut?
Sassy and independent.
Would you get the same haircut again?
To be honest, I kind of have the same cut now, but I really need a trim so maybe I’ll bring this photo into the salon next time…

What was happening in your life when you got this haircut?
A few months after my wedding, I decided to go for the big chop: from long and dark brown to a lob with bold color. It was a big change for me—I hadn’t cut my hair that short (ever) and hadn’t colored it in almost ten years.
Who/what was your haircut inspired by?
I wanted balayage tones like J. Lo.
How did you feel when you had this haircut?
The beauty editor in me was really excited to test out different styling techniques.
Would you get the same haircut again?
I did! I actually went even shorter and lighter next time. Fast forward five years and I’m back to being long and brunette but sometimes I get the itch to cut and color.
Emily Bowen, Editorial and Content Assistant
What was happening in your life when you got this haircut?
I was a few months into moving from Florida to New York.
Who/what was your haircut inspired by?
I think working at a haircare company prompted me to be more experimental and go out of my comfort zone, ultimately chopping off my long locks. Also, walking around the city and Brooklyn being surrounded by a bunch of cool and creative people inspired me to switch up my own look!
How did you feel when you had this haircut?
I was super into it! You don’t want to know how many selfies I took that day to get this one lol.
Would you get the same haircut again?
I think I’d skip bangs, but would definitely opt for a shorter chop again!
