What Is Argan Oil And How Does It Affect Your Hair
History Of Argan Oil
Argan oil is found in the Southwestern part of Morocco. To produce the oil, the pits of the argan fruit are extracted and pressed. Many years ago, this oil was hand-pressed, but in today’s modern age, they usually use cold-pressing machines. Since around 600 BCE, people have used the oil for different beauty and healing rituals.
In the ’90s, the trees became scarce because of deforestation, but in 1999, UNESCO made the region a biosphere reserve to help save the argan oil trees and their production. It is even sometimes referred to as “liquid gold.”
Different Uses For Your Hair
Argan oil can be used in many different ways on your hair. One of the easiest uses is a hair mask. You can apply a small amount to your scalp and the rest of your hair while massaging it in. Then, to keep the oil on your hair, wrap it in a shower cap or towel. You can leave this on while you sleep and then wash it out in the morning.
You can also use argan oil to style your hair. It can help smooth frizzy flyaways by providing moisture to your strands. The important part of this usage is avoiding your scalp. If you are going to leave the oil in, you don’t want your hair to look greasy. Make sure you apply it to clean, dry hair.
If you want to help stop breakage in your hair, you can use argan oil as a leave-in conditioner too. You can do this occasionally instead of your usual conditioner to amp up your hair’s moisture. After washing your hair, dry it with a towel and then apply the oil. You can use this method up to two or three times a week.
Ingredient In Your Shampoo?
Besides using argan oil by itself, did you know argan oil can also be found inside your everyday shampoo and conditioner? Our hair mask, hair oil, shampoo, and conditioner can contain argan oil for various purposes. These include hydration, nourishment, and fiber repairing.
If you select any of these hair goals for your products, then argan oil will likely be one of your ingredients! Argan oil can coat the hair shaft and add shine to your hair while decreasing your frizz. We source our argan oil from the trees of Morocco that are hand-harvested and then sent to factories for extraction.
A one-liter bottle of argan oil can often take up to eight hours of labor. It can be a difficult process, but the results are worth it.
Benefits of Argan Oil
Since argan oil is so rich with vitamins and antioxidants, there are many benefits to using it on your hair.
Argan oil is great for moisturizing and conditioning your hair because of the fatty acids contained in it. These acids can help coat the shaft of your hair and lock in moisture. The vitamin E in the oil can help to prevent your hair from getting too dry.
If you struggle with frizz, argan oil will be your best friend. It can help increase your hair’s shine while keeping the frizz to a minimum. This is because the ingredients in argan oil help flatten the cuticle layer of your hair.
Argan oil can also be a great heat and sun protectant. That’s because the UV rays can be harsh on your hair, just like it can be on your skin. A sun protectant is especially important for color-treated hair that needs extra protection to preserve vibrancy. The people of Morocco used argan oil as a sun protectant for many years before it was popularized in other parts of the world.
Applying argan oil before you use heat styling tools can also be helpful to prevent dryness and breakage in your hair. A lot of heat sprays contain argan oil as an ingredient as well. This is due to the linoleic and oleic acid in the oil.
The protective properties in argan oil may also help reduce hair loss. Although there is not any specific research proving this, argan oil has been shown to help improve new hair growth. The more that hair is protected from damage, the less likely it is to fall out.
How To Use For Each Hair Type
Everyone has different hair needs. This is why we provide customized hair care for people of all hair types and textures. If you are thinking about using argan oil in your hair, you may want to think about your hair type first.
In general, argan oil is best for coarse hair. If your hair is very fine, this oil could make your hair too greasy or weigh it down. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you can’t use argan oil; you probably just shouldn’t use it by itself. Argan oil that is in shampoo, conditioner, or hair oil can work for fine hair textures.
If you have naturally oily hair, you should avoid using argan oil on your scalp. However, if you are looking for more moisture and you have a dry scalp, argan oil can be a great wash-out treatment.
