Of your many titles, a size-inclusivity advocate is at the top of the list. How does this tie into your views on daily self-care?

I think a form of self-care is surrounding yourself with images that inspire and empower you. By being a size inclusivity advocate, I’m constantly working with brands to make sure that they are using a diverse group of models in their marketing. As someone who spends a lot of their time on Instagram and social media, it’s important for me to follow brands who align with my ethos! Not only because I like them, but because it’s truly good for me.

What does self-care look like to you now vs. before becoming a new parent?

There’s definitely not as much time as there used to be. Self-care used to look like vacations, nights out with friends, facials, and spa trips. None of those are happening for me just yet. But the introvert in me does need a little escape—it’s my way to recharge and stay happiest and strongest for my family. So a few minutes alone either taking a bath, watching a show, or just a nice nap helps me tremendously.

Between modeling, working on projects, and raising your son, you’ve got a lot on your plate each day. How do you go about ensuring that you incorporate moments of self-care into your day?

Life gets busy for sure, but I find something that helps me are my daily routines. Like my morning or evening skincare routine. Seems silly, but it really helps with keeping my day on track. Same with my coffee, I always try to slow down and enjoy it in the mornings while watching my baby Koss play. In the warmer months I’ll always try and give myself time to enjoy it on our patio.

Many new parents note experiencing major changes in their hair during pregnancy and postpartum. What major changes, if any, did you experience and how have you approached managing them?

I actually experienced a few changes throughout my journey to motherhood. It started in my first trimester. My hair started getting extremely oily. I’ve always been prone to oily hair, but this was far more intense. I actually started using powder dry shampoo at the time because I found it really soaked up the oils. As I went through the pregnancy, my hormones balanced a bit and the oil let up and all of a sudden the volume came in. It became so full—I loved it! I didn’t lose a single hair and it was growing incredibly fast.

Now that I’m postpartum and my hormones are balancing again, I’m definitely experiencing some hair loss, but not as bad as I expected. From the beginning I knew I was going to experience changes and I had a “bring it on“ mentality. There isn’t much we can do about it, it’s just a right of passage new moms go through. Hopefully I’m through the worst of the hair loss, but I’ll have to keep you posted on that!

What are your top 3 biggest haircare hacks as a busy new mom?

Dry shampoo, dry shampoo, and more dry shampoo.
