Why did you look into CBD as an ingredient?
We started to look at it when Paul, one of Prose Co-founders, told us CBD oil really helped him with issues he was having with his back pain. We dug a little deeper and found out that CBD has proven soothing properties.
What was the reaction of the team when you proposed CBD be added to the ingredients list?
They thought it was an excuse to get marijuana in the lab. Which was, of course, a joke. Actually, our CBD comes from a hemp variety which is not marijuana at all. We can guarantee that there is absolutely no THC in our ingredient. It’s important for us to emphasize that it will not get you high!
How many tests did you do before finding the correct formulation?
A lot! Mostly because CBD is not easy to incorporate in hair care formulas. We wanted to be extra sure that it would be stable in our products so we combined our tests with the research given to us by our suppliers.
Why did you decide to use CBD in powder form vs oil?
Most of the CBD-rich hemp oils contain low amounts of CBD (around 3%)so we would need to put a lot of oil in our products to get an actual effect. We know that for some hair types, a high amount of oil is not recommended as it could weigh hair down or leave hair greasy, so we chose to use purified, 100% CBD powder. This allows us to be more flexible with the concentration used and get an optimized performance.
How did you formulate CBD in Prose specifically?
We associate it with two other soothing ingredients to create a synergic effect; Pro-Vitamin B5, which is known to super moisturize the scalp and to restore the skin barrier function along with and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, which comes from Liquorice Roots and is often used in dermatologic creams to help calm the skin.
Who is CBD best for?
CBD is particularly recommended for people who would like to soothe their sensitive scalp, nourish flaky skin, and calm any itchiness and irritation.
How does CBD differ from other ingredients known to soothe and treat the scalp?
Most ingredients known to soothe the scalp act as blockers or reducers somewhere in the inflammation reaction chain that happens when skin gets irritated. What’s interesting with CBD is that it’s chemically similar to substances that the human body is already producing naturally, which are involved in regulating our mood and pain level. By introducing an external source of CBD we increase and thus improve, the natural function of our internal system.
Rebalancing and improving the condition of your scalp is important for the growth and health of your strands. Take our consultation here to find the perfect formula for your hair.
